I also did not realize there were two varieties of this coin. Mine appears to have the curved inscription. These coins may be common , but to me they are very handsome.

These are some of my favorite Neros in several denominations....
1. Dynastic issue under Claudius - aureus with Boscoreale toning...
2. Aureus of Nero as a boy, again under Claudius...
3. Aureus of the corpulent Nero that we've all come to love...
4. My favorite sestertius of Nero with DECVRSIO reverse... struck in Lugdunum (also my favorite)
5. Port of Ostia sestertius ( unfortunately I took this photo. This explains why all my photos are from the various dealers).
6. My favorite denarius...
7. Dupondius with Victory holding wreath...
7. Nice looking As with Victory holding globe inscribed SPQR...
8 . Dupondius with mesmerizing portrait and SECVRITAS reverse,....

Beautiful photos brought back neat memories. I had great, great grandparents from Formia , down the road from Gaeta. I visited the area many years ago and it was breathtaking. I particularly remember what was thought to be Cicero's tomb near there.

Thank you, @Curtisimo. I have been to Europe four times with my son, all since I've been on my own: once to England (London & Bath) in 2002, once to Rome and vicinity in 2008, once to Berlin in 2011, and once to the area encompassing Freiburg, Basel, Strasbourg, & Colmar in 2018. They are all among my fondest memories. It's definitely something to look forward to. Hopefully he won't consider himself too old to travel with me again one of these days, even though he's been by himself to Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and Austria in the last decade, and travel is definitely more difficult for me now than it was 10 or 15 years ago. (On the other hand, he wore me out the most back in 2002; his energy was inexhaustible!)
A few additional photos from the 2008 trip. The first one is easy, but who can identify the location of the other two? (They're not the same place.)
I also dug up the cursory receipt for the Trajan's Column and Trevi Fountain engravings, but unfortunately it doesn't provide the dates when they were made. The closest matches from a Google Images search are no older than the early 19th century, but that's not necessarily definitive: from the innumerable engravings and etchings of those locations that differ only in slight details, I suspect that there was a lot of not-so-light plagiarism going on!
Here's something I was able to identify more precisely, also purchased in Rome. It's the 1685 German edition, printed in Frankfurt by Johann David Zunner, of Alain Malleson Mallet's 1683 "Plan et Profil de la Ville de Rome Moderne" (Grundriss der heutigen Stadt Rom). (See https://datos.bne.es/edicion/a6810075.html ). I was charmed by the tiny Colosseum and Trajan's Column, etc., as well as by the way the seven hills and other features were so carefully delineated.
Middle photo reminds me of Pompeii? a caupona or shop?
