JayAg47 Posted August 19, 2022 · Member Share Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Saw this wonderful coin on Vcoins, and nearly bought it, which would've concluded my purchases for the year, but then it just clicked that it looks too good, as I've never seen a Ptolemaic hockey puck in pristine condition! since it's on Vcoins I'm sure it's real, but I'm afraid if it has been tooled or smoothed. I don't shy away from damaged coins, but artificial altering is where I draw the line, and if I'm gonna spend this much money, it better be honest. So what do you experts think? shanxi Posted August 19, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Amazingly smooth surfaces, but I can't see any traces of tooling. Edited August 19, 2022 by shanxi

I don't pretend to be an expert, but I see no visible evidence of tooling on this coin. A more relevant question you should be asking the vendor is: Has the coin been smoothed or brushed & repatinated ? If the vendor guaranties that it hasn't, buy it & send the coin to David Sear or NGC for a second opinion. If the coin hasn't been "monkeyed around with", $500.00 is a bargain. Benefactor KenDorney Posted August 19, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted August 19, 2022 Surfaces are heavily smoothed, and I think some details are strengthened around there they meet the fields, so tooled as well.
