Curtisimo Posted July 23, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted July 23, 2022 I’m no expert but the book Legions of Rome lists 5 legions that carried the name Legio I at various times. Here are two examples from the book.
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted July 24, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted July 24, 2022 Interesting thanks. I have read Ammianus, both the Penguin Classics version and the free online version at penelope.chicago.edu site. A coin of Singara I have from Tranquillina has the Legion I parthica (centaur) symbol above the head of Tyche. I'm on my phone now or I'd post the pic! NewStyleKing Posted July 24, 2022 · Member Author Share Posted July 24, 2022 What I really meant, was as a MARCUS ANTONIUS LEGIONARY ISSUE. I always understood that Leg l were always modern forgeries??? What other legions are missing in his series? Thanks in advance! shanxi Posted July 24, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) Legio I exists on the legionary denarii only in written form, not as number. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2656759 Edited July 24, 2022 by shanxi
NewStyleKing Posted July 26, 2022 · Member Author Share Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) That is an exceptional Marc Anthony legionary coin plus the rarest of the rare legion! Maybe someone voiced doubts somewhere and I picked up on it. If that is all there is, then the survival of this is.......debateable? No? Not an expert just curious. No more typical worn PR 1 / legio 1 coins anywhere? That would worry me! I take it that PRI means premier= number 1 , but all the same..............
