Already posted photos of my albums, but I'm in the process of placing every single coin I have on my site.

As of yesterday, I now have photos of every single coin in my collection.

I'm in the process of creating my own software that does the following:

  • Manages all of my coin metadata that's currently in Excel
  • Create "pages" that contain stories and coin images/attributions. For example, I'll have an "Abdera" page with all of my Abdera coins.
  • Automatically publish all pages to my web site
  • Ability to include coin attributions, links to other pages, and reference images and automatically change them where referenced without having to go to each page. Basically, I have my own "coin page authoring" editor.
  • Organize the pages into collections and subcollections and automatically publish table of contents
  • Show cities where I have coins on a map and allow navigation that way (automatically generated)
  • Generate timelines for people and allow navigation that way
  • Allow navigation through tags. For example, it will be possible to quickly see every coin I have with a horse. 🙂
  • Automatic album page generation

The software itself is nearly complete. However, it will take me some time to add all of the stories and information. I currently have 704 coins, 31 kingdoms, 115 people, and 365 cities. That doesn't include my Roman collection, where I'll just show the coins without stories for now.

My hope is to have all of this done by the end of February, but we'll see...

This is a great idea. I may do the same!

I really like the album idea! With the black interleaf pages all the coins contrast nice on black background. Gold/ silver even copper coins show well. If you are showing your  collection/ you can see obv./ rev. well. Of course for really detailed look its best to remove saflip and see coins in their full splendor.IMG_1306.JPG.7dac7382c118c18a5415a241c723ae7c.JPG

John, Congrats on organizing that group of coins ☺️! There is always a sense of satisfaction after completing a project like that 😉. Last week when the weather was too cold to do anything else, I organized my modest group of 11 Byzantine gold coins 🙂.
