galba68 Posted October 9 · Member Share Posted October 9 I bought this interesting coin, or part of it, from my good friend, fellow Metal detectorist...I firmly believe, that is part of the Galba denarius, Lyon mint..IMP GALBA CAESAR behind the Imperator head on obverse, and clearly visible AVG on the reverse...Almost the same denarius, the whole in this case, was sold at CNG, auction 154, lot 167...Or, Im wrong? https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=96254
Tejas Posted October 9 · Member Share Posted October 9 Definitely Galba. The metal looks like it cristalized, which allowed the coin to break when sufficient pressure was applied. 2
hotwheelsearl Posted October 9 · Member Share Posted October 9 Appears to be a relatively recent crack. I wonder if the digging up was what caused it. If so, there’s a whole other half of a Galba just waiting to be found… 1
The_Collector Posted October 10 · Member Share Posted October 10 At first glace, the bust looked like something from Vespasian. So, I did some looking and I think you are right because there are no titles in Wildwinds that would fit the mushed part in the legend. Congratulations on the find!
