Amarmur Posted October 3 · Member Share Posted October 3 Interesting coin with distinct Celtic style. It's around 18mm US dime sized. It appears to have a native male on the obverse and an animal most likely a bull on the reverse. What do you think?
Amarmur Posted October 8 · Member Author Share Posted October 8 I was recommended on another forum this book ACIP - NumisWiki, The Collaborative Numismatics Project (forumancientcoins.com) as a possible anonymous type. Maybe this is an imitation of an ancient Spanish coin? It looks very cubist and unnatural and there is no lettering to be seen.
sand Posted October 8 · Member Share Posted October 8 It seems like it could be Celtic. Whether it's Spanish or not, I don't know.
Edessa Posted October 8 · Supporter Share Posted October 8 I'd agree that it has a Iberian Celtic look. The coins of Iltirta have this motif, however the portrait style it a bit different, as is the reverse. I have attached the relevant page from ACIP (Ancient Coinage of the Iberian Peninsula, Villaronga and Benages.
