What is it? How much is it worth? Where can I sell it?

Hi All, I’m a new member and not a collector. I inherited some coins collected by my Dad who picked them up in his many travels to the Middle East. I would like some honest advice. Let’s start with these 6. Any help is deeply appreciated. I’m happy to post more pics and any other info.

Ok well there may be issues with some of them.

The top one is meant to be a Phoenician shekel https://coins.ha.com/itm/ancients/greek/ancients-phoenicia-byblus-addirmilk-ca-375-351-bc-ar-shekel-24mm-1311-gm-5h-/a/3032-23341.s

The second a Byzantine solidus of Tiberius II Constantine from Constantinople https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces54421.html

The third a Seleukos I Nikator Tetradrachm https://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotviewer.php?LotID=2180073&AucID=5234&Lot=363&Val=1900567420c27d3ac14173d9d6f5b297

The fourth a Ptolemy II tetradrachm https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/egypt/ptolemy_II/t.html

The fifth an Attica owl.

But the type of coins that they are, the way they look and where they were bought might be somewhat suspect.

Hello @Jduck and welcome to the forum! I hope that you stick around and become a collector if you aren't one already. 😉

We are happy to help you identify your coins, but if there are a lot of them and your intent is simply to sell, may I recommend contacting a reputable ancient coin dealer or auction house? They could probably do a more thorough job, as well as offer options for selling.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have many of these and I appreciate the ID of these 5 posted. My Dad was a collector of many things but a record keeper he was not. I believe he acquired these coins in Jordan. Finding an ancient coin expert is noted but easier said than done where I live. My local coin shop recommended that I send them to someone and pay 100’s of dollars to have them looked at but I’m a bit unsure of this process. Any recommendations? I have 100’s of various coins, mostly silver and about 20 gold. I’ll post them here one at a time in the future. Here’s the one (actually 2 together) of the initial 6 that I did not post. Thanks in advance for your insights.F730F621-8998-4503-987C-B64FB8821BB4.jpeg.69d6d86e2e7b73a775341b90318cbe28.jpeg36991B74-5EE6-44E5-AC15-4DBC30EA13DD.jpeg.bcea8b8aa8f2437ecbfa11d99ee31de7.jpeg

Sorry to point out that several appear to be modern reproductions and not authentic ancient coins.

There are areas in the middle east that are known for their forgeries.

No worries, I don’t know much about this topic. I think getting someone who knows and is qualified to check them out is the way forward. Thank you for the input.
