happy_collector Posted November 10, 2022 · Member Share Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) Here is my recent CNG auction win. It is a Faustina Junior sestertius with three children (Annia Faustina, Lucilla, and Fadilla) on the reverse design. I have a small group of Faustina Junior coins with one, two, four and six children. This one is a great complement to my sub-collection. 😀 Faustina Junior. Augusta, AD 161. Æ Sestertius (32mm, 23.18 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck under Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus Obv: Draped bust right, hair waved and fastened in chignon with a band of pearls low at back of head Rev: Juno, holding infant, standing left between two young girls. RIC III 1649; MIR 18,18-6a; Banti 75. CNG e-Auction 526, November 2022.  The others in my sub-collection are here: Please post if you have Faustina coins with children in the reverse design. Thanks! happy_collector Posted November 10, 2022 · Member Author Share Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) I remember reading a post from @DonnaML about the names of the six children on the coins. Just found it! It is at: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/faustina-ii-with-one-child-with-2-3-4-6-children-plus-other-empresses-with-children.384702/#post-7818766 I am surely inspired by the post. 🙂 Edited November 10, 2022 by happy_collector
Roman Collector Posted November 10, 2022 · Patron Share Posted November 10, 2022 Beautiful coin, @happy_collector! I date the issue to AD 159, based upon the dated analogous reverse type of a sestertius of Antoninus Pius. The three children must therefore be Lucilla, Faustina III, and newborn Fadilla. Here are my coins with this reverse type. Faustina II, AD 147-175. Roman orichalcum sestertius, 26.31 g, 29 mm, 12 h. Rome, AD 159. Obv: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, bare-headed and draped bust, right. Rev: IVNONI LVCINAE, Juno standing left between two children, holding a third child on left arm. Refs: RIC 1649; BMCRE 918; Cohen 136; RCV 5277; MIR 18. Faustina II, AD 147-175. Roman orichalcum dupondius, 13.23 g, 25.1 mm, 6 h. Rome, AD 159. Obv: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, bare-headed and draped bust, right. Rev: IVNONI LVCINAE, Juno standing left between two children, holding a third child on left arm. Refs: RIC 1650; BMCRE p. 541, *; Cohen 137; RCV 5298; MIR 18. Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161. Roman orichalcum sestertius, 23.46 g, 32.3 mm, 12 h. Rome, AD 159 - 160. Obv: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XXIII, laureate head, right. Rev: PIETATI AVG COS IIII, Pietas, standing facing, head left, holding globe in extended right hand and child on left arm; on either side of her, small girl standing, raising one hand. Refs: RIC 1031; BMCRE 2088-90; Cohen 621; Strack 1192; RCV 4205. 15

Romancollector Posted November 11, 2022 · Member Share Posted November 11, 2022 Unfortunately, I don't have a sestertius of Faustina II or any coin of her, but I recently picked up this sestertius of Faustina I from CNG. Ex Niclovitz Collection (L. Hamburger [76], 19 October 1925), lot 1000. 14
