Benefactor robinjojo Posted September 24, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) Here's another recent antiquity pick up, this time from the current Harlan J Berk buy/bid sale. This is a small bronze bull that has some wonderful modeling and simplicity in detail, with an undulating muscular rearing body, just the pose one would expect from any bull worth his salt, unless he happens to be Ferdinand. The patina is quite nice as well, smooth with a light green/brown combination. Roman bronze bull, circa 2nd century AD. From the Harlan J Berk Buy/Bid Sale 221, lot 689. L. 2 1/2" H. 1 1/8" (6.4 cm x 2.9 cm), 140.06 grams. Edited September 24, 2022 by robinjojo 12
happy_collector Posted September 24, 2022 · Member Share Posted September 24, 2022 Nice purchase, @robinjojo. Great motion of the bull. Somehow the last pic reminds me of the bronze bull in front of Wall Street. 🙂
Benefactor robinjojo Posted September 24, 2022 · Benefactor Author Benefactor Share Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) Thanks. Yes, the pose is similar, but the Wall Street version has a somewhat lowered head and his body is at more of a sharp angle. Also, the facial features are more aggressive in my view. The bronze statuette has more of an ambivalent expression, as if he is pondering just going back to sniffing flowers.
