  1. Beautiful coins, the honorable mentions too. I voted for Euthydemos for its stunning portrait.
  2. Very cool. I've got a strongly struck single die clash of ABVNDANTIA I like where you can see the little imprints from his beard.
  3. I think it's actually Virtus on the reverse.
  4. Nice buys Nero. I don't have any post Gallienus sestertii so nothing to show on my end. The toning on that Valerian looks spectacular!
  5. I like hunting for deals and I'm fortunate that my collecting focus a less desired one. I have a number of coins picked up on the "cheap" compared to other hammers at least. Here is one of my latest I still haven't photographed so using the dealer's picture here. This is an extremely rare antoninianus of Gallienus from the sole reign. Göbl didn't find any examples for his book and there are just two cited but not pictured in Wolkow's 2021 book from hoards. The longer IMP legend added to a common coin makes this extremely rare. Luckily neither the dealer nor other bidders noticed and I got it for $17.50. I let Cedric Wolkow know and I think it will be plated in a revised edition. I have two more interesting and extremely rare coins coming I won't show until they arrive. 😉
  6. One of my recent buys, finally photographed tonight after languishing on my desk for a good month. Another Antioch error coin, LONA instead of LVNA. These guys were sloppy even if the flans are nicer than their Western counterparts. GALLIENVS AVG LONA LVCIF -/-//PXV MIR 1665k error
  7. Congrats! I recently got an antoninianus celebrating 10 years from Gallienus's sole reign and would love to get a sestertius someday. Mine is also from the Jeff Clark collection.
  8. Another departure from the Gallienus collecting, I won a Carausius at the last CNG. Figured it was a good time to get one with them auctioning so many. I went with the classic PAX reverse, his most common. I just got the shipping notification this morning, before I paid! CNG's description: Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (25mm, 4.94 g, 12h). Londinium (London) mint. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Pax standing left, holding olive branch and transverse scepter; F|O//ML. RIC V 118/119 (obv./rev.). Attractive dark green-brown patina with some toned trace silvering. Good VF. From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection, purchased from Spink, 18 February 2005.
  9. Nice and rare coin! I had planned on bidding on it but was on vacation and lost track of time.
  10. What prompted the sale if you don't mind me asking? Good luck!
  11. Great coin with the full border on flan. I'd leave it as is. The contrast between the patina and high points makes it stand out nicely.
  12. Oh mine too. Thanks for the heads up!
  13. Here is a trio of Gallienus from Rome. The second two are reverse die matches: GALLIENVS AVG: Radiate bust right GENIVS AVG: Genius standing left, with patera and cornucopia V/I//- MIR 372a (0), RIC - IMP GALLIENVS AVG: Radiate, cuirassed, and draped bust right seen from the front GENIVS AVG: Genius standing left, with patera and cornucopia VI/-//- MIR 398m (1), RIC 198 var IMP GALLIENVS AVG: Radiate, cuirassed bust left, with spear and shield GENIVS AVG: Genius standing left, with patera and cornucopia VI/-//- MIR 398t (0), RIC 198 var
  14. Thanks for sharing the link, fascinating. In one of my other hobbies some people can paint really small miniatures without the use of magnification so maybe it wasn't necessary. This one is like 8mm tall:
