Nice selection of stunning pieces. Love the cat collection. We are cat lovers ourselves, this is the 3rd one rescued from the street, looks comfortable and unworried

What a great looking coin

Love your toned Canadians. I am quite jealous actually. I have hundreds of Canadian coins of all denominations, due to my Parents and 3 sisters all living in and around Vancouver, and not one has ever toned dramatically, even though I live in a hot, humid part of the world.

A beauty and fits here nicely

Great pastel toning on that one

An absolutely lucky shot of a chameleon in our garden, just imaged it as it was about to disappear, still has the colors of the branch it fell off. You can see it if you look at the white triangle. 2nd pic is of our tortoises out for a walk.

Elizabeth I AR Sixpence, 1562: my earliest milled coin. What's yours?
expat replied to DonnaML's topic in World Coins
Beautiful coins Donna. A few hundred years earlier than mine. This is from The Electorate of Saxony (Albertinian Line), milled at the Dresden Mint as a single year of issue in 1763, as per the FWoF on reverse. Composition of .833 Silver and I am unable to find any mintage figures. Obverse has Friedrich Christian, armored bust facing right. Reverse crowned arms with date at end of legend. A part of the currency Thaler (1493-1805) this is a conventionthaler, equivalent to 4/3 Saxon Thaler or 1/10 of a Cologne Mark. Weight is 28.8 grams and has a diameter of 43mm.- 27 replies

Hope it is as nice inside as the outside looks. Will make some fine jewellery pieces.

All wonderful examples. Sweden is a country I do not have many coins from. Here is a 1950/1 overdate

Great coins so far. The Victoria Canadians are very nice
-
Certainly an extra bonus having such toning, one of my favorite improperly annealed toners
-
As shown above in many examples, improperly mixed compositions can tone dramatically along the lines of imperfection. Even on silver coins such as this .925 silver/ .075 copper 1000 Yen

Thanks. There were 5 coins to choose from in the competition and that one appealed to me the most, although I had not the slightest idea about what I was choosing if I won it. Now I can read up about it and take my own images when it arrives

Thank you, I will have a look when I get home from work.

Thank you, I have a lot of learning to do, and am going to enjoy every minute of it.

After saying a week or so ago that I am looking to start collecting ancient coins, I have just won my first in a giveaway contest over at CT. It is from a member there and apparently came from a collection by @Sulla80 Now my total ignorance is showing. Can someone tell me which ref to give it when it arrives. Roman Republic, or something else. Here is the description and posters images Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ dupondius, 28mm, 12.7g, 6h; Rome mint, AD 157. Obv.: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP IMP II; Radiate head right. Rev.: TR POT XX COS IIII, S-C; Annona standing right, foot on prow, holding rudder and modius set on knee. Ref.: RIC 969.From the Sulla80 Collection. I can't wait for it to arrive, I am like a kid in a sweetshop at the moment, excited as heck. Sad but true
