  1. Not sure if I have these two attributed someplace in my inventory. They look very much alike. Now I have something to try to do. Tetricus I Draped and radiate bust right - Pax holding olive branch and scepter Tetricus I, Gallic emperor 271-274 This one has an X in the field above outstretched arm.
  2. Ignorance is bliss. I never thought too much about who owns what while it resides in a museum. I have been to several and was amazed of course. As for that video, I actually watched the whole thing. (even muted the TV while doing so) Made me think of the ugly greed in this world. Always been that way, and always will until the end. Lucky, I've possessed way too much stuff in my little existence to keep me entertained for a lifetime. I actually feel a little guilty with the things I've accumulated. It isn't all that easy to get rid of either, short of giving it away. LOL! Obviously there are people that never stop to ponder the possibility that they just might not be able to take it with them when they go. They want it ALL! This makes me grateful I won't have to either. What a hassle that would be. Odd how people equate having vast riches with immortality. Ha! I just got this picture in my head of a hearse being followed by a long line of moving vans on the way to the cemetery.
  3. Thank you all for viewing and for the "likes". You can certainly post your Geta coins here. I have noticed in my research that there are two varieties on Wildwinds of this type. The other being RSC 183a This image shows the most obvious area of difference. I hope I have this right? Mine on the left.
  4. I am so glad to finally post an ancient coin. It has been quite awhile since I was able to do so. This is my 42nd ancient Roman coin. Son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna, Geta, was the younger of two brothers that Dad wished to share the rule. Caracalla, Geta's older brother was jealous and greedy and wanted everything for himself. So he stabbed Geta and Geta died in his mothers arms. That's the way that the world goes round, ever since Cain slew Abel I suppose, and it will until the end. My First Murder Bowman non-sports card. I am glad that I am not in power of anything or anyone. Us regular everyday people can count ourselves lucky. I wouldn't want to be Caracalla or Geta but I do like this coin that will be arriving shortly from lordmarcovian who treated me so well in acquiring it. I believe I have identified this correctly. It is in an NGC holder and graded VF. Geta as Caesar Denarius. 202 AD. P SEPT GETA CAES PONT, bare-headed, draped bust right / SECVRIT IMPERII, Securitas seated left, holding globe. RSC 183 RIC 20a Sear 7200.
  5. You have some that flattened out after hitting something, miniballs (shaped like bullets) I suppose? I know little about this stuff. Thanks for posting and the "Like"
  6. I haven't had much to post and these were looking at me today. I thought, what the heck, post em. The big one on the left, I believe is a 3 inch / 3 pound cannon ball. I know nothing else about it except I did weigh it and measure the diameter and that was easy to remember since it was exact. The second largest and maybe the third, I think, is called "grapeshot" also shot from cannons in large numbers fired at once. The last two, I believe are musket balls from flintlock rifles or long guns or the smallest, perhaps a pistol. I don't know why the black ones are black, painted maybe? The white one was dug, which I got in a bag of very old antique marbles years ago. Hope this is OK to post. I felt left out for some time now. Please feel free to post anything about these or your own bullets or balls.
  7. No longer in my sights. I turned it down. Someday another ancient or byzantine gold coin will come my way. Thanks to all who joined me in this post and to those who read. You saved me from making a mistake and I appreciate that.
  8. I'm headed down to the shop this morning to turn it down as politely as possible. Thanks all!
  9. An Awesome report. Thank you for compiling these posts. It is only 4.5 hrs. away for me to go there. It may have taken a whole day to get around for you but I wouldn't have covered a 1/10 of that. Let me guess . . . was it the undegrading of that coin in the ANACS slab that you found horrendous. Just a guess.
  10. I didn't buy it and I'm sure I won't. She wants $1250 for it. I can't even haggle at that asking price. I am thinking from other comments, it is probably an $800.00 coin at best. Prettier than images, but they also strike me as fairly common, especially in this grade.
  11. Lets move over here to continue on the Constantine X coin where I have posted pictures from NGC. This thread was meant for the Coin Show report anyway. My bad for not starting a separate thread. Sorry Link to other post.
  12. OK , so I have found the coin on NGC/ I apologize for the weight question. It is 4.40 g I was going by memory and I was quite busy with other things at the time I saw it. I also apologize for having this mentioned in two different threads. I'll leave it here and post on the other that this is where it can be commented on. The grade is lower than I thought, the strike and surface as well but the coin in hand is quite a bit more attractive than these NGC pictures. The gold is deeper in color. The haggled down price I got is more than I would pay but since i started this mess, I thought I'd better follow through. I promise to disclose the out the door price I was given after I get some feedback here. I think you all will agree with me that the price I got is way too high. The coin however is an attractive example. I think it has great eye appeal. Can somebody tell me more? The side with Jesus on it is concave. Here are the images. I believe they will get larger if you click on them. Thank you!
  13. Thank you, I will hope to get the photo from the NGC page and post eventually. I think I'll have it in hand next Thursday. We'll see what you guys and gals have to say then.
  14. I appreciate that very much sand and Hrefn. I would make an offer. If I recall, the grade was maybe 4.5 / 4.5 but when I look at these coins this dealer offers they have great eye appeal or I pass. Anyway, I am going to get the cert number from her by phone and keep doing my homework. The plus side is that I can look at it in hand. I will do what is right. I know I'm not paying for gold, it's the coin itself. Seems there were a lot of these minted. I'll update when I know more. I sort of have two threads going on this now so I will continue on the other in the Byzantine section. Thank you!
  15. I have my eye on a cupped gold coin of Constantine X. It has all kinds of info on the NGC holder and I thought it was 6 grams or 6.4 but maybe it was ONLY 4.6. I don't have an image of it at the moment and the more I look around the more I think it probably says 4.6 grams and is a Histamenon Nomisma. I don't know much about these things at all but I like that coin. Maybe somebody can give me some info on the different gold Constantine X denominations and the general weights and diameters. Maybe there is a link with this narrowed down? I plan to call the dealer and ask for the cert number. I would imagine there is an image of it online. Like a Tru View. Then I can ask for more advice. These don't exactly look rare to me but it appears that strike and surface are important. Thank you!
  16. OH yeah, I did see the Byzantine gold coin I saw at the local coin shop that kept gnawing at my brain for the past half year. It is a very nice cupped coin, A Constantine X Histamenon Nomisma. She has a tag on it for $1035. ( I think ) Further investigation and some patience and luck and it may eventually come home. I need to study it more. It is slabbed in a PCGS or NGC holder but I didn't want to seem to excited. I have bought coins from her with patience on a couple occasions. One took a couple years to hook me.
  17. Thank you Numis Forums for the calendar post I was able to make promoting the W.A.N.S. coin show in early August 2023. I was not one of the big dealers but did share an 8 foot table with a fellow club member with our wares. There were 25-to 30 tables in the air conditioned well lit firehall. There was a steady stream of people from 8 AM until 1:30 PM when it got a bit more manageable. Sometimes I had two things going on at once and someone waiting in the background. I took stuff I never wanted to see again and sold over $1000. my buddy sold over $7000. but he took his good stuff. We had three aluminum standard display cases. I brought half my stuff home and my buddy sold 75% of what he brought. That's - ah - good! I gave ANACS 18 coins to grade and paid the flat fee for them to conserve what they saw fit of the lot. I don't remember buying anything but did get a lead for a "house call" and went there a few days later and bought about $90 face in common US silver. there were a couple rolls of BU original Kennedy 1964 halves in that lot. So the junk I sold, I turned into silver. That's what I wanted to do. As for the rest of the show, our officers tell me that all the dealers were happy and I can tell that the customers were too. The food well, it could have been better. It was suffice. At the end they drew the prizes from the sale of perhaps 600 tickets sold. There were 10 prizes and my wife won the Top prize, a 1999 1/10th oz platinum uncirculated eagle. Since a lot of my unwanted stuff is gone, I will put on an even better show next year. Maybe 2 tables? Depends on my health.
  18. until

10 more days. and it's .... SHOW TIME!
  19. Even the One Penny "Cartwheel" is a bit hefty when compared to normal Great Britain issues so I'll sneak one in. WEIGHT 28.4 g. DIAMETER 36 mm. THICKNESS 2 mm.
  20. Re-runs and repeats but I think I only have two really big ones. 1797 "Cartwheel" Two Pence 1769 Five Kopeks Russia
  21. I have a bunch of Little League pins in those. Amazingly the are held closed with 4 straight pins. Just remember to put it back together with the same top and bottom in the same position or you might have trouble putting the pins back in. Very nice! and . . . it never occurred to me to use them for coins. thanks
  22. Finally got one after 40 plus years of wishin' (yeah, I'm bragging a little) 1854 Three Dollar Gold Now it isn't the best but it ain't the worst. A common first year date, weighing in at AU55 by PCGS. Well, the pictures show this Princess without her make-up on but there's a lot more luster than shown in the TRUVIEW photo. I'm quite happy finishing up my denomination set. Of course I won't be dreaming of a Four Dollar Stella.
