It seems that there are numerous lettering on the reverse of these. I think the top lettering might be Athens. I've found some translate to NIKIFOROS on the bottom. There are letters in the middle, I see a couple A's or three on mine?

All I can figure is that this is a bronze coin which is supposed to be from Mysia, a region in the northwest of ancient Asia Minor. I believe it was struck in the city of Pergamon. No size or weight given. Athena is wearing a helmet with a star and looking right. On the reverse an owl has wings spread on an olive branch. I don't know what to do to research it more. It looks legitimate to me and it didn't cost much. I bought it because I liked it. I see very similar coins with a wide range of asking prices. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you! I read through the pages here and this post seemed to be closest to my issue. I see this on both laptop and phone. I thought I recalled seeing more of a gallery view a week or three ago. I liked that a lot better. If "The Cabinet" gets more populated with listings, it will be pretty difficult using the < and > arrows to view ALL items. Even if we are just looking at just one category. I don't use a smartphone but have one set up with my wifi for on the go browsing once in a while. I have successfully traded on "The Cabinet" and I so much appreciate it. Being new to ancients, I don't think I will be getting a bad or fake coin here. I think it's my safest place to buy for now.

People clean range brass with this type tumbler. The media is crushed walnut shells. Has anyone ever used this method? There were times I had wondered if this method would work on those unidentifiable coins like these or improve on the appearance of coins like this.

Not an ancient but I did read up on the story of Taras when I got this a long time ago. I used to have this on my boat as a good luck charm. My boat was named "Lucky Charm" It's a big medallion, maybe 2 1/2 inches and probably a souvenir from a bazaar in Greece that a vacationer brought home. I only ever saw one other but it was smaller and clearly had Greece stamped on it. I suppose I ought to watch for a real Taras coin.

Thanks for the great picture and description CPK. I really like this coin. I found the exact issue on Wildwinds. I'm proud of myself. I'm standing at the door waiting for the pony express as I type! an afterthought . . . After posting it has a desert patina, I looked up Arles which I find is in France. Maybe some coins that appear like this were not always uncovered in the sand?

Well four actually, just like the show. (Yes I know this is corny but I had to do it.) I don't need a Fausta to cast that 1960's television show. Constantine the Great married Fausta who somehow died while taking a hot bath and never appeared on the show. Crispus, (played Mike) Constantine the Great's first son had to suddenly and permanently leave the show. His mother Minervina never appeared on the show either. Constantine the Great (plays widower, Steve Douglas) now has Three Sons from Fausta. Constantine II (plays Robbie) Constantius (plays Chip) Constans (plays Ernie) I suppose we could have had Maximian play the part of "Bub" Grandfather to the kids and father of Fausta. The cast
