Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted June 2, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted June 2, 2022 I watched a documentary on the Celts of England last night. Specifically it focused on the Iceni (under Boudicca) and Demetae, who lived in southwestern England but remained outside of Roman rule until Titus' time when the region was pacified. There were a number of hill forts with encircling stone and earthen walls of 4 to 5 meters in height. A chief or petty king's burial was located at the top of one of these hills with grave goods including an iron sword and a ceremonial chariot. Pretty interesting.

Al Kowsky Posted June 2, 2022 · Member Share Posted June 2, 2022 I love Celtic coins, the more imaginative the better 😍. I've only got a few of them that have been posted on the CT website but will post them on this website as well ☺️. I think the Parisian staters represent the epitome of Celtic numismatic art. Eastern Celts, 1st century BC. AR Tetradrachm: 16.35 gm, 35 mm, 12 h. I won this coin many years ago at a CNG auction where it was described as "Imitative of Thasos tetradrachm", but does this coin really imitate a Thasos tetradrachm 🙄? I don't think even a person with limited vision would confuse this coin with the genuine coin 😂. Maybe a better description would be "inspired by the Thasos tetradrachms". CELTIC, Attrebates & Regni. Commius, Circa 50-25 BC. AV Stater: 5.42 gm, 18 mm, 7 h. Obverse devolved head of Apollo with two hidden faces. Reverse: Celtic horse facing right; remains of charioteer's arm above & wheel below. Rare. ABC 1022. Ex Chris Rudd FPL 137, 2014; Ex Chris Rudd FPL 89, 2006. CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Veneti Tribe, Circa 100-50 BC. AR Stater: 7.19 gm, 19.5 mm, 8 h. Obverse: Head of Ogmios with flowing hair curls & strings of beads. Reverse: Charioteer driving a human headed horse while holding a stalk with a roseate on the top; a running boar below. Very rare. Gruel & Morin 469. CELTIC. Trinovantes & Catuvellauni. Cunobelin, Circa AD 10-43. Camulodunum Mint. AV Stater: 5.42 gm, 18 mm, 12 h. Obverse: Ear of barley, CAMV. Reverse: Galloping horse with palm branch above & war shield below, CVNO. ABC 2786. Rare. 6
