thenickelguy Posted August 5, 2022 · Member Share Posted August 5, 2022 I have collected every proof and higher grade uncirculated Jefferson Nickels to make up my set. I do try for all in "Full Step" strikes. I have a complete set of V nickels and a pretty nice complete set of Buffalo nickels too. I have the major varieties you'll see listed in the Red Book for Jeffersons and a few more unlisted. Even have the 1971 No S Proof and a 1937D 3 legged Buffalo but not the overdate Buffalos. I have a set of Echidna Australian 5 cent coins, a couple special issues but no proofs. But my other pride and joy is my Canadian 5 Cent Set. I am sadly going to have to stop collecting this coin. Some years have been plain crazy with 6 different coins to chase. Oh, I'll have to stop somewhere. Each year it is too costly to keep up with it. It has been 100 years since 1922 or has it been 101? I don't know? Here is my checklist list of My 100 year set of Canadian Nickels. Canadian 5 Cent Collection "Bug Tail" "bald belly" Extra Water Line (XWL) etc. that do not interest me to pay much for. I think this is a pretty extensive and complete collection of Canadian 5 Cent coins. I plan to grade them at some point and photograph them. Plan is the key word. Early dates to 1940 are average VF-XF or better with the Key Date 1925 graded at F12 by ICCS. After that, for 1950's and later most all are AU-Unc and most recent are high grade examples. 1. 1922 2. 1923 3. 1924 4. 1925 ICCS Cert ( in with others on top of blue box for now ) 5. 1926 6. 1927 7. 1928 8. 1929 9. 1930 10. 1931 11. 1932 12. 1933 13. 1934 14. 1935 15. 1936 16. 1937 Dot 17. 1938 18. 1939 19. 1940 20. 1941 21. 1942 22. 1942 Tombac 23. 1943 Tombac 24. 1944 25. 1945 26. 1946 27. 1947 28. 1947 Maple Leaf 29. 1948 30. 1949 31. 1950 32. 1951 33. 1951 1751-1951 34. 1952 35. 1953 NSF 36. 1953 SF 37. 1954 38. 1955 39. 1956 40. 1957 41. 1958 42. 1959 43. 1960 44. 1961 45. 1961 PL 46. 1962 47. 1962 PL 48. 1963 49. 1963 PL 50. 1964 51. 1964 PL 52. 1965 53. 1965 PL 54. 1966 55. 1966 PL light cameo 56. 1967 Rabbit 57. 1967 PL Rabbit 58. 1968 59. 1968 PL 60. 1969 61. 1969 PL 62. 1970 63. 1970 PL 64. 1971 65. 1971 PL 66. 1972 67. 1972 PL 68. 1973 69. 1973 PL 70. 1974 71. 1974 PL 72. 1975 73. 1975 PL 74. 1976 75. 1976 PL 76. 1977 Low 7 77. 1977 High 7 78. 1977 Low 7 PL 79. 1978 80. 1978 PL 81. 1979 82. 1980 83. 1981 84. 1981 Proof Pure Nickel 85. 1982 86. 1982 Proof 87. 1983 88. 1983 PL 89. 1983 Proof 90. 1984 91. 1984 Proof 92. 1985 93. 1985 PL 94. 1985 Proof 95. 1986 96. 1986 Proof 97. 1987 98. 1987 Proof 99. 1988 100. 1988 Proof 101. 1989 102. 1989 Proof 103. 1990 104. 1990 Proof 105. 1991 106. 1991 Proof 107. 1992 1867-1992 108. 1992 Proof 1867-1992 109. 1993 110. 1993 Proof 111. 1994 112. 1994 Proof 113. 1995 114. 1995 PL? It started out that it was the oldest valuable coin you could find in circulation for me as a kid and teenager. It amazed me that I could find a nice 1938 D or S or silver war nickel in change. Then I assembled a set and have upgraded it over the years. True coin collecting as a kid. I am still keeping up with the set but have no love for the newer Jefferson design since 2004.
Benefactor Egry Posted August 5, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted August 5, 2022 @thenickelguy Nice collection. I especially appreciate the Canadian 1925 call out. Now do you have a Canadian 1926 Far ‘6’?

I still have my collection from when I was a kid with that war nickle. I have since added coins from my local coin shop that I frequented every weekend with my saved up allowance. It was a bit of stretch from where I lived, but I biked all the way there. All of this was pre-internet circa late 70s and early 80s.

ewomack Posted August 5, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted August 5, 2022 Yes, a very nice nickel collection! The Canadian beaver nickel, though it seems to include few rarities, remains one of my favorite coins. I always look forward to receiving them in pocket change while roaming through Canada. I also have the 2015 "Big Coin" beaver nickel as well, technically not a nickel, though I paid too much for it at the Winnipeg mint. If it's okay, here are another few nickels, since this seems to be the theme of the thread (do I like the Buffalo nickel more?) 5
Paddy54 Posted August 5, 2022 · Member Share Posted August 5, 2022 @thenickelguy You ever have one of these? At one time I had an example of every Jefferson nickel and all major varities, I had a 71 s no s in 67 deep camo plus another back up in a 71 proof set. Watching the nickel market crash literally I sold off all high dollar specimens, as I could see the writting on the wall. Was glad to sell off and put the money into my half dimes. LoL I actually paid off my car as well our honeymoon by returning bags of searched nickels to the bank....when I finally got married my folks were like its time for "all your stuff leaves our house....." once and for all.... !
