Bex Posted February 27 · Member Share Posted February 27 This coin was metal detected during a recent survey. After a bit research I think it’s a Tiberius denarius with Livia / Pax. What I don’t know is if it might be a fourree? it’s 19mm & 3g. Can anyway advise? Thanks 1

AETHER Posted February 27 · Member Share Posted February 27 (edited) Hard to tell from the photos as they are not the greatest. but at 3g, it was probably in the 3.5g range before the chipping and accounting for the wear. I would say prob not a fourree. Great find! Edited February 27 by AETHER
Bex Posted February 27 · Member Author Share Posted February 27 (edited) I just wasn’t sure if in the chipped bit I could see a darker metal in section. I dont want to clean further as I have to give to treasure trove. Sorry about photos, how can I get better ones? If you are stuck to your phone camera, take the coin outside, and take steady focused closeup photos of the side of the coin and the chip. Maybe we can see more details.
Bex Posted February 27 · Member Author Share Posted February 27 I do have a bridge camera but it doesn’t seem to like close ups 😕 I will try to get better ones outside tomorrow and repost. Thanks for comments so far.
Bex Posted February 28 · Member Author Share Posted February 28 This is the best I can do, though zooming in the interior in the chipped bit does appear silver
AETHER Posted February 28 · Member Share Posted February 28 Thanks, from what I can tell by that photo, it looks like the coin and core are silver. This looks like a completely fine silver denarius.

Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted February 28 · Member Share Posted February 28 Perhaps it's crystallized and brittle. There's already a chip.
