Spaniard Posted July 8, 2022 · Supporter Posted July 8, 2022 Just received an interesting package from @Finn235.... 5 sweet little Kashmir coins. Plus some others that I feel need their own post... Top and bottom left Kalasa..Interesting difference not just in the legend form but the complete fabric of the coin. Top right Harsha deva and bottom right Di Kshema gupta. This coin is Sussala....An interesting piece as someone has done what I've seriously thought about doing but have yet to do and that is 'strip' the patina completely showing the copper base..Neat coin! Feel free to post a kashmir coin... 16 1 1 1 Quote

Marsyas Mike Posted July 8, 2022 · Member Posted July 8, 2022 Nice coins, @Spaniard I have one I posted back on CT, which you helped me out with on the attribution a while back, since I know nothing about these - I'm ignorant, but I do like how they look: India, Kashmir Æ Stater First Lohara Dynasty Ananta Deva (1028-1063 A.D.) Enthroned Lakshmi (Ardoxsho) facing, Nagari legend Ananta Ra- / King standing, sacrificing at altar, Nagari legend -Ja Deva. Mitchiner Non-Islamic 181-182. (5.59 grams / 17 x 16 mm) eBay Nov. 2021 Notes: "Although Ananta Rajadeva is a reasonably common ruler to acquire your coin does show the "Raja" running from obverse to reverse...The "Ra" being much more difficult to find..." Spaniard Posted July 9, 2022 · Supporter Author Posted July 9, 2022 Thanks for the comments everyone, really appreciated! 22 hours ago, John Conduitt said: Is it difficult to differentiate them? John I've nearly finished preparing a thread dedicated to this series, it will have a breakdown of legend types that I possess so hopefully will be helpful. @Marsyas Mike...Yep I remember this coin, it's a nice example. Here's a quick overlay to visually show exactly what I was describing... Here's one of my examples and as you can see the "RA" is off flan as is the norm for this type. 4 Quote

Thank you so much for that very helpful graphic! I have a heck of a time interpreting non-Roman/Greek lettering and this sort of thing really makes it clear. ☺️ 2 Quote
