kecinpulach Posted October 4, 2023 · Member Share Posted October 4, 2023 How to distinguish the artificial patina on old silver coins from the natural one? Are there any hints and tips? Below is my new coin in the collection. Would you say the patina is artificial or natural?
Paddy54 Posted October 5, 2023 · Member Share Posted October 5, 2023 I like the CircCam look of this specimen. Now do I believe that its has been cleaned at one point...yes. .... as has many others that are 200 years younger! I am no expert on this series but ths inner fields looked as they been cleaned and retoned. As for the coin in general I like it. Very eye appealing coin to my liking. Paddy54 Posted October 5, 2023 · Member Share Posted October 5, 2023 Acetone wiill not hurt or alter the coins surface. It has nothing to do with the op coin. Or its conditions

expat Posted October 7, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted October 7, 2023 Acetone will only soften or remove organic substances. It has never been known to remove toning/patina. The only possibility is if someone applied a fake patina with an organic substance, looking at the OP coin that doesn´t appear to be the case. 1
