CPK Posted May 12, 2023 · Supporter Posted May 12, 2023 I've got another Achaemenid Siglos that needs to be identified but I'm finding myself stumped (again.) There just doesn't seem to be much to go on. Maybe someone here has the expertise and knowledge needed to make a reasonably sure attribution? (Hopeful!) Here is the coin and a copy of the auction house's description: "Time of Darios I to Xerxes II 485-420 BC. Siglos (silver, 5.49 g, 14 mm), Sardeis. Persian king in kneeling/running stance right, holding spear and bow, and with quiver over shoulder. Rev. Incuse punch. Very fine." This would match the Carradice Type IIIb. But I don't like to blindly trust an auction house's description. What is the NumisForum consensus? Thanks! 1 Quote
Broucheion Posted May 12, 2023 · Member Posted May 12, 2023 Hi @CPK, Did you look at https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=siglos ? - Broucheion Quote
CPK Posted May 12, 2023 · Supporter Author Posted May 12, 2023 Yes, but I must confess that my eye isn't practiced enough to easily tell the differences in styling, e.g. the drapery folds and the figure's appearance and proportions. 1 Quote
