O-Towner Posted January 21 · Member Share Posted January 21 Came across this Ae type from Athens at the FUN show, thought it was an interesting piece but as I researched it I found there was a bit more to the coin than I thought. Here it is: Athens Attica Ae, struck ca. 32 BC during or just after the visit of Mark Antony and Cleopatra to Athens. Obv: Laureate head of Zeus right Rev: Bearded head of Dionysos right wearing ivy wreath; A - Θ/E to either side Size: 20.2mm, 5.8gms Ref: Kroll 144 12
NewStyleKing Posted January 25 · Member Share Posted January 25 Maybe something to do Mark Anthony being called "the new dionysos" when he sojourned in Athens . Probably finally caused the death of the Newstyle coinage?
