Julius Germanicus Posted November 10, 2022 · Member Share Posted November 10, 2022 IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XI CENS POT P P - Laureate bust of Domitian right, with Aegis on neck IOVI VICTORI S C -Jupiter seated left. holding winged Victory in his right hand and a scepter in his left hand 35 mm / 26,70 gr Sestertius, Rome, 85 AD RIC (old) 279a, BMCRE 327, Sear -, Cayon 33 This is another is "replacement" Sestertius I bought to fill the empty space left by a coin that was stolen from the mail this year. I noticed that prices have obviously gone up since I started collecting in 2016 because I can't get Sestertii of the same quality for the same budget any more. Anyway, this was my beloved first Sestertius of Domitian (now in the hands of someone who can never appreciate it as much as I did). I guess I liked it better because of the beautiful Tiber patina high relief, and the absence of cleaning scratches and pits: Please show your Sestertii of Domitian! 20
Jay GT4 Posted November 10, 2022 · Member Share Posted November 10, 2022 Congrats! I've always liked the Jupiter reverse type. Lovely portrait. At least the scratches are in the field and not on the devices.

kapphnwn Posted November 11, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2022 Domitian Ae Sestertius 95-96 AD Obv Head right laureate Rv Jupiter seated left holding victory, RIC 794 28.42 grms 34 mm Photo by W. Hansen My coin is very similar to the one posted by @Julius Germanicus which is a bit surpising in that they are about ten years apart. One other thing that can be seen on this coin would be the edge of the die which can be seen on the left side of the reverse. 11
