Roman Collector Posted May 24, 2022 · Patron Share Posted May 24, 2022 I was the lucky winner of this posthumous issue of Faustina II at the most recent InAsta auction. I think I paid more in buyer's commission, currency exchange and transfer fees and postage than for the coin itself, but it was still a bargain, I think. Not exactly FDC, but you take what you can get! It arrived in the mail just today all the way from San Marino. Faustina II, AD 147-175. Roman orichalcum sestertius, 24.85 g, 27.1 mm, 12 h. Rome, early AD 176-180. Obv: DIVA FAVSTINA PIA, bare-headed and draped bust, right. Rev: AETERNITAS S C, Aeternitas seated left, holding phoenix on glob and scepter. Refs: RIC 1696; BMCRE 1566; Cohen 8; RCV 5223; MIR 52-6/10. It's very much a "like mother, like daughter" coin. Here's her mom.

Ryro Posted May 25, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted May 25, 2022 Oooh,la,la! That patina🤩 It's like I'm not sure if it's chocolate or beef jerky, but either way I know it's delicious. Here's one that was found in modern Burgundy:
Helvius Pertinax Posted May 27, 2022 · Member Share Posted May 27, 2022 I like the big lettering! It's like the coin is screaming "DIVA!!" Faustina, screaming out of her grave "IM A GODESS NOW!!" 😅
