milesofwho Posted September 29, 2022 · Member Share Posted September 29, 2022 (edited) Today, the Royal Mint revealed the new coin portrait of Charles III, designed Martin Jennings. I shamelessly took these pictures from their Instagram. I personally think it’s a little strange that they didn’t wait a year (or even a month) to release the new portrait. However, it does manage to relive my curiosity about its appearance. What are your thoughts? Will you buy the new set? Benefactor DonnaML Posted September 30, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted September 30, 2022 I'm sure I'll order something. The Royal Mint website says that they'll start selling the new coins next week, on October 3. It doesn't say how long it will take before orders are filled. I'm sure collectors of British coins will scoop-up all the special strikes quickly, especially if they have coins from Charles I & II 😏. I'll be curious to see if they mint some of the massive gold coins for him similar to the one's issued for Elizabeth II 🤩. John Conduitt Posted September 30, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted September 30, 2022 I collect British coins but all my others are circulated, including Charles I and II. So I'll just wait to get Charles III in my change. It's interesting the 50p is going back to the old crown reverse, which is much like the florin.
Qcumbor Posted October 1, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted October 1, 2022 Poor thing who had to wait 73 years to get his face on a coin : what a sad life !! 😄 Q
Benefactor DonnaML Posted October 6, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted October 6, 2022 At the Royal Mint website, I just ordered a silver proof 5 pound crown and a silver proof 50 p.. both with Charles III on the obverse and Elizabeth II on the reverse. The website says that it will take up to 16 weeks for the coins to be delivered! I'm sure they haven't been minted yet. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the major retailers are able to obtain the coins earlier than the general public, but if they do, I'm sure they'll be charging a premium. I'd rather just wait.
