A New British Coin Portrait

Today, the Royal Mint revealed the new coin portrait of Charles III, designed Martin Jennings. I shamelessly took these pictures from their Instagram. I personally think it’s a little strange that they didn’t wait a year (or even a month) to release the new portrait. However, it does manage to relive my curiosity about its appearance. What are your thoughts? Will you buy the new set? 549C98F3-1862-44BF-92CA-4B3D01F1DADA.jpeg.ddb431c72edeb22d112ccf255f7355ed.jpeg7F308896-DF1D-43EA-96BE-D3E99F50552C.jpeg.b18151cd9562afeafdbfb207a2309a27.jpeg

I'm sure collectors of British coins will scoop-up all the special strikes quickly, especially if they have coins from Charles I & II 😏. I'll be curious to see if they mint some of the massive gold coins for him similar to the one's issued for Elizabeth II 🤩.

At the Royal Mint website, I just ordered a silver proof 5 pound crown and a silver proof 50 p.. both with Charles III on the obverse and Elizabeth II on the reverse. The website says that it will take up to 16 weeks for the coins to be delivered! I'm sure they haven't been minted yet. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the major retailers are able to obtain the coins earlier than the general public, but if they do, I'm sure they'll be charging a premium. I'd rather just wait.
