Very unfortunate. I hope things go as well as they can for Mr. Beale but it doesn't sound good. 

Roma has auctions scheduled later this month. If the arrest happened in January they must intend to go through with them since they went up on the website just a few days ago. There were a couple coins I was interested in but I am not sure I feel comfortable now. A shame because I have only ever had good experiences with the company.

I like the style of Cologne but wish they had produced a greater variety of reverses types. 

Congrats! That is a beautiful example, both obverse and reverse. I wanted to bid on several coins of Gallienus at Roma but I forgot to set a reminder for myself the day of the auction. Oops. 

I have a new zoo coin that was part of a two coin lot on eBay, but it was not the reason I bid. Here is is, a common but decent DIANAE CONS:

MIR 716b (239 ex), 10th emission of Rome.

I ordered Wolkow's books recently and am looking forward to learning more about the zoo series (and to check if another recent eBay win is in "des figures assises", needs some cleaning but appears to not be in MIR).

My true target in the lot was a second antoninianus with a scarce draped bust:

MIR 1032m (1 ex), 3rd emission of Mediolanum.

It went unnoticed and I scored the pair for $40 total!

I have only one with the shorter GENIO POP ROM legend.

Maximian BI Nummus. Lugdunum, AD 308-309. IMP C VAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG, laureate and cuirassed bust to right / GENIO POP ROM, Genius, wearing modius on head, standing to left, holding patera over altar and cornucopiae; CI in left field, H over S in right field, PLC in exergue. RIC VI 288. 5.98g, 27mm, 7h.

Seems to be an unlucky title, not many of our princes of youth lived to see old age! Here's a recent buy, from Roma's latest E-Sale.

Valerian II, as Caesar, BI Antoninianus. Samosata, AD 254-255. VALERIANVS NOBIL CAES, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust to right / PRINC IVVENTVTIS, Prince standing to left, crowning trophy and holding spear and shield. RIC V.1 49 (Antioch); MIR 1694b; RSC 67a. 4.25g, 22mm, 6h.

I don't think this will lead to lower hammers. For everyone that gets annoyed and says "screw this, I'm out!" there might be someone else who sets aside more money for their desired coins.

The Aurelian/Vabalathus ants look a little rough but I saw one that someone else bought at the last auction and it looked far better in hand, so I am taking a chance!

My wins from Savoca Blue 135 arrived today. Two of them are silvered coins of Gallienus:

I believe Left is: RIC 620. Gallienus Antoninianus, Antioch. GALLIENVS AVG, radiate, draped bust right / SOLI INVICTO, Sol standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding globe, right hand raised.

And Right: RIC 609. Gallienus Antoninianus, Antioch. GALLIENVS AVG, radiate, cuirassed bust right / LVNA LVCIF, Diana walking right, holding torch in both hands, PXV in ex.

Here is a gaggle of Gallieni with varying amounts of silvering. The one shaped like a guitar pick has a lot left!

I bid (and did not win!) on the Salonina SPQR. But I won a couple other coins I can add here once they arrive. 

What a coin and what a write up! Congratulations on your acquisition! As someone with little experience with Roman Republican coins I really appreciate your attention to detail.

Amazing example! "Byzantines" are outside of my price/quality threshold as a collector (I'm cheap :)) but I LOVE the artistry, history, and symbolism behind the nicer examples. I have a single bronze trachy the auction attributed to Alexius III. I don't even know where to begin to identify the type:

Great scene, centering, and toning! I love the details you can make out on their shields. 

I have a Claudius II PAX AETERNA SPQR antoninianus. From what I can tell from the OCRE website it is an un-draped RIC 237 bust variant that they attribute to Cyzicus. None of the Gallienus or Salonina SPQR for me (yet!). These types have interested me but I have not been actively searching for them. 

My profile picture is my most recent addition, and current favorite. I won it earlier this month at Roma E-Sale 96.

About Good Very Fine; flan crack at 3h, areas of flatness. Extremely Rare; only one noted by MIR (in a private collection).
