  1. Hello, Anyone here that has some advice on Roma Numismatics Auction payments? I have not purchased from the auction before and "won" three coins in the last auction. I tried to make payment several times through the invoice and pay by card. It always goes to an error message:

I did try through several devices, but no luck. Anyone that has purchased recently that can tell me what I am doing wrong? Does the credit card payment portal work normally? I am trying to figure out if this is a me problem or maybe everyone does wire transfers?

(I sent an email but did not receive a reply back from Roma)

    Many thanks for any advice!

    Robin

  2. That is baffling, but maybe there were just a couple bidders who very much wanted it. I have well overpaid for several coins in bidding wars. 😅

I aquired one of these in an old collection I bought, along with a coin of Rajendra Chola I and a tiny gold fanam with an elephant.

    Here is mine:

India, Uttama Chola Uttama Chola, 973 - 985 AD India, Thanjavur in ThamilNadu Silver Kahavanu; 3.98g; 19-20mm Obverse : Tiger (Chola symbol) seated right faces towards two upright fish (Pandyan symbol): bow (Chera symbol) behind: umbrella above. Reverse : Uttama / Chola - in Devanagari script Mitchiner #713-725 ; Biddulph #26 Keywords: India Uttama Chola Tiger fish

It is a national custom. I think other countries in this part of Europe have similar customs.

Women wear them, as brooches, the entire month.
In some regions, men receive them from women on the 1st of March. And on the 8th women receive them from men. This custom is valid in the region I live in (I wasn't born here) so I was quite surprised about 15 years ago when I received one from a girl. But men do not wear them, sometimes they wear textile bracelets - red/white cords. They are just symbolic gifts for men, I suppose.

Here is the one I received today

It's a chimney sweeper - symbol of good luck in my country.

I think it is a very charming custom and your little chimney sweep is wonderful!

  4. What a lovely rabbit hole to fall down! Provincial holes are absolutely an adventure to rival Alice's. 😁

I had this happen when I bought a coin of Julia Domna from Stobi. It led to a few more of hers from Stobi, then an interesting one of Caracalla, then Geta, and why not Septimius too? I should have the whole family! Then a few Marcus Aurelius... over 110 coins later I still have not found the light at the end of the rabbit hole!
