Thanks All the way Back At you! :<}
...Hoping you get an honest minute to post more.
I plan to. I am in the process of adjusting to retirement and life changes. I plan to finally execute my project of thoroughly cataloging and reshooting my collection. Going to redo my office for my collection projects. I may even look to sell some of my lower interest categories in 2025… dunno yet.

Sorry, but now is when I have to ask, how drunk are we?
LOL, nope not inebriated. I may have one, maybe two beers a month, anymore. You need to see more of this guy’s work. His schtick is hilarious as a clown, but his voice is great. He has done songs without the makeup.

Since coins were not minted prior to 650 BCE or so, and the Egyptians were WAY late to the coin party, I have been collecting a few Scarabaei to capture landmarks in their History.

...Oh, No, @Roman Collector, "Fresh Air" just reaired this:
When you posted 'Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice,' I was wanting to return the favor. Here's one. Likely it was already old enough that it took finding in the library, or maybe used. ...Only dates me in the wrong way.
Wait! a coin! The most Greek I have pictures of are two complementary hemidrachms of Kolchis. Sometimes dated as late as the 4th c. BCE, but even from out there in the western Caucasus region, I have to think that the pronounced archaism of the style puts them earlier than than that, by a century if not two.
@JeandAcreReally like those coins!

@Alegandron, going back to the mid-'60's, when I was that low to the ground, my mom used to sing me that song. I literally grew up assuming it was a folk song, with connotations of, say, Odetta. Wow. Thanks for the enlightenment! A really solid RR, by the way, single-handedly justifying the earlier types, before the designs started going all over the place in the next century. (Cf. esp. @DonnaML's Favorites of 2023 thread.)
Ditto about my mother singing that to me when I was a wee lad, too. Good memories.

I wonder how these beasts were actually used, and what their purchasing power was? They seem unpracticably heavy to be carrying around on the off-chance you want to spend one ... more for a pre-planned payment perhaps ? More bullion than coin ?
In the case of the Carthage 15 Shekel coin, I found this info…
Hannibal issued it (after losing to Scipio at Zama), when he was organizing Carthage's finances after the 2nd Punic War. Hannibal was scrambling to pay the massive Roman War indemnities.
I like to personally call these very scarce coins the ZAMA since no one truly knows what they were called at the time.
These were probly produced to ship to Rome, then they (Roma) may had melted them down to convert into their currency.
My thoughts.
