Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted May 30, 2022 · Member Share Posted May 30, 2022 The coin isn't in-hand yet. The dealer described the drachm as imitative, but I rather like the style. Could crystallization account for the low weight? Benefactor Theodosius Posted June 3, 2022 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted June 3, 2022 I don't know what mint it is from, but I like the portrait style. Is it supposed to be silver? Could it be billon? John

Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted June 4, 2022 · Member Author Share Posted June 4, 2022 Now that it's in-hand, it's smaller than I remember Drachms of Menander being. It's probably just toned. There was a Jon Jencek original tag along with it.

It is not imitative; this is a normal, albeit heavily worn, crystalized and chipped, drachm of Menander. Mints are not known for Indo-Greek drachms. Indo-Greek Meander imitative, 40BC 15mm 1.60gms "Meander" is not a king, it's Menander... at any rate, this is a posthumous issue struck in the name of the long-dead Indo-Greek king Hermaios struck by the Indo-Scythians.
