Indeed this seems to be the case with most emperors after Gordian III. Also a quite ironic reverse since he's the first emperor to die in Battle π.

The duality of a crisis coin. Crisp obverse die and a completely battered reverse. Hard to pass Gordian III and Trajan decius coins when they're so cheap in high grade π.

My personal collection of roman militaria artifacts.
Victrix replied to Victrix's topic in Antiquities & Artifacts
Managed to buy a set of 5 roman (Dura-europos type) belt buckles from Mid 2nd to Mid 3rd century. Not the flashiest type but think of the stories these things could tell if they could talkπ. Most of the buckle tongues made of iron degraded but on some remnants still remain. -

I wouldn't worry about that, almost all big bronzes are smoothed to an extend and looks great as is π

I'd definitely be interested but would be causious. With roman antiquities im very comfortable and collect it heavily. Also do have some Anglo-saxon strap ends I collect. Where would one get such artifacts without getting burned? Feel like viking stuff gets faked quite heavily.

Leu refused to list my Julius Caesar dupondius cause it's 'suspicious'.
Victrix replied to Victrix's topic in Roman Empire
Its indeed hard to tell so ill wait for a reply of Leu. But id be surprised if this were to be a fake, never spotted any fakes at artemide before. Thanks for input π. -

Yes lol. They make up provenances for most of my coins saying it was purchased before 2012 when I started collecting in 2019 π. -

It's currently still at Leu sadly. What do you mean with what we can see isn't encouraging, anything that stands out? I just dislike the fact they tell me it's suspicious but don't condemn it . Been in contact with Artemide and they say they don't see anything pointing it being a fake. I guess they'd refund me if it were to be, just quite annoyed with the situation π . -

@red_spork Could you shed some more light onto this denarius if you have the time? Bought it as anonymous but from what I can tell it's Sicily aswell staff series. Cheers!

The style doesnt look like the work of the Rome mint to me. Looks like some magna graecian city states style but I might be wrong. Thanks π
