Hello all! While I've been a reader here, this is my first post. I joined the site because... well, I bought a coin from the AK collection at the Tokyo International Coin Convention last weekend (which was a lot of fun), then Googled the AK collection to learn more about it, and found this thread. So, I thought it's time to make an account. 😄
As a very non-expert coin collector, I'd also like to learn more about the coin. It's gorgeous, that much I know. It has high relief and it's a fine, sharp portrait. I was lucky to meet and buy it from Dr. Martina Dieterle, whom I see has been previously mentioned in this thread. I believe the coin is rare. What I'm interested in is what makes it rare, and anything else special or interesting about it. It's a Septimius Severus Drachm, 193-211. 18mm, 2.52g. AD 194. The tag also says BMC -; SNG Cop. -; SNG v. Aulock -; Syd p.96, 393. I did find a similar coin online, many examples of which are shown here ( https://www.coinarchives.com/a/results.php?search=Septimius+victory+denarius+&s=0 ) , but without the E (?) TR on the reverse. So perhaps that inscription explains its rarity? Anyway, I'll attach a few photos I took. I love the coin, and the other examples from the AK collection posted in this thread. Seems like a wonderful collection.
