Naville, unfortunately, insist on doing their auctions manually, meaning that the speed and timing constantly change.

@Jay GT4, can you send us a message through our contact form with the bids that didn't execute so that I can look into this?

Thanks Simon, I've filled  out the form.  It was really only one lot I was after so frustrating that it just closed without accepting my bid.  I was willing to go several incriments higher.

  2. Glad you got something. The Naville auction for me was horrible.  The bid timing was all over the place.  I thought it might be my connection but when I tried the Biga auction running at the same time it was flawless.  Went back to Naville and again, it went from "going once" to "Sold".  Sometimes it would just hang there for seconds with nothing happening.  Tried on my laptop, phone and tablet, all the same.  Unfortunately,  several of my bids weren't executed even though they were higher than the winning bid.  I didn't get anything.  Anyone else experience this?

  3. Great eye David, as always!

Sometimes when it comes to extreme rarities you have to take what you can get.  This one arrived today and was an absolute bargain!

An extremely rare coin not illustrated in the RIC plates, only citing one example in the Museo Nazionale Roma. None on acsearch or in Forum's galleries. Dare I say second known example? The entire series from 72 is very rare, this perhaps being the rarest.

  4. Great left facing coins everyone.

Here's a very rare one in my collection

This is the third known example of an extremely rare type. One from the Harry Sneh collection sold at the Gemini IX sale, 8 January, lot 333 (RIC reference coin, no image). The second example is found in the David Atherton collection. This being the 3rd, shares both obverse and reverse dies with the Atherton coin.

  5. Excellent denarius David! I only have one Domitian PONT denarius that comes from our friend:

  7. It wasn't planned this way but this week I received two coins from Titus, both with Securitas on the reverse.

First, a fairly rare Dupondius from Lugdunum minted in 77-78 CE.  Part of a huge issue of bronze coinage, this is one of the rarities.  Only two in Forum galleries, one from the Atherton collection.  RIC 1265 (R)

    SECVRITAS AVGVSTI SC

    Lugdunum, 77-78 CE

    11.03g

    RIC 1265 Vespasian (R)

Ex-C. Euston from an old mid 20th century German collection with original envelope

Nice glossy brown patina with a handsome portrait.

The second, the matching denarius from 75 CE minted in Rome.  This one even rarer. RIC 784 (R2).  This coin is often misattributed as the very common contemporary Pax reverse. The giveaway is the position of the deities head resting in her hand.  The depiction must be taken from a cult statue of the goddess as even Nero depicted her in the same pose on his bronze.

Feel free to post your Securitas or matching coins in different metals.
