Robi Posted January 4 · Member Posted January 4 (edited) Hi. Can someone help wiht this two (greek?) coins, both 19 mm, near 5,5 g? Thank You! Robert Edited January 4 by Robi 2 Quote
Sulla80 Posted January 4 · Supporter Posted January 4 (edited) First coin looks like Tyche - Zeus as from Cilicia, Rhosus, pseudo-autonomous issue, 2nd century AD. Example: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=11296874 Edited January 4 by Sulla80 4 Quote
Robi Posted January 4 · Member Author Posted January 4 (edited) @Sulla80 Thank you! Indeed, Zeus and Tyche are similar on both coins. Mine has two busts on the reverse, but maybe it's other type from Rhodus. Edited January 4 by Robi Quote
HumbleScribe Posted January 8 · Member Posted January 8 (edited) There is a letter Z in the left field on the reverse of the first coin. See this type which is usually attributed to an uncertain mint in the Levant or Syria (Damascus?). The weight is consistent. The reverse might be double struck or a slightly different type. Source 1: CNG E-64, lot 181 SYRIA, Seleukis and Pieria. Damascus(?) Circa 1st Century BC to 1st Century AD. Æ 19mm (5.62 gm). Diademed head of king right / Turreted and diademed head of Tyche right; N behind, all within wreath. Lindgren III 1633, but cf. Lindgren I A2138A. Nice VF, dark green patina, light earthen encrustation. From the David Freedman Collection. Attribution to Damascus is conjectural (see Lindgren). Although Lindgren refers to the obverse as portraying Zeus wearing a taenia, it is more likely this is a depiction of some eastern king wearing a royal diadem. Robi Posted Tuesday at 10:00 PM · Member Author Posted Tuesday at 10:00 PM I cleaned this second coin a bit (it is in process) and discovered a secret!🤗 There's silver there😮 It is a tetradrachm fourree I suspect to be Indo-Scythian. Unfortunately, I was not able to precisely determine the ruler and the year of issue, because I did not find such a type. Can anybody help with indo-scythian coinage? Thankn You, Robert 1 Quote
