akeady Posted January 4 · Supporter Posted January 4 (edited) I just had a look through what I added to the pile in 2024 and picked what should have been ten, but actually is eleven, so why not. I didn't pick up any great treasures in 2024 - my main resolution for the year was to try to use up my vacation time by taking a lot of smallish breaks and it may be as a result that I forgot about coins for most of the year 馃槃聽 聽Anyway, I made it to New York (NYINC), Paris (work), Prague (& Amsterdam on the way - got a book on the Roman Republican collection in Prague National Museum), Athens (first time since 1989, got to the Numismatic Collection), Rome (tried to catch places I hadn't been to - Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, Basilica of San Clemente [my cousin is a Dominican based there and doing a PhD] and saw an Irish gold at the European Athletics Championships), Istanbul (first time, got to the Istanbul Archaeological Museum and its coin collection), London (Coinex) and Santiago de Compostela for New Year (meet up with some friends, I did buy a medal). I got more RR coins than any other type and now have 1023 RR coins of 874 types (in some cases I've got multiple examples of the same thing with different symbols - e.g., fourteen or fifteen of Cr. 340/1). I went to NYINC in January and picked up a few random coins - here are two of them: 1 - L. Thorius Balbus denarius - I had to get something RR and this is a lot better than the example of the type I already had. Gens: Thoria Moneyer: L. shibbity Posted January 4 · Member Posted January 4 Great group! I had never heard of the Kingdom of Paeonia before now, cool one. The Pius IX medal has an insane level of detail, the reverse is stunning! 2 1 Quote

He does really capture the view well - this is a bad photo' of the scene that I took in 2015, compared to the medal: 聽 ATB, Aidan. 聽 Edited January 4 by akeady 7 Quote
CPK Posted January 4 · Supporter Posted January 4 Wonderful group of coins @akeady! My favorites are the聽Paeonian Tetradrachm, the聽Q. Caecilius Metellus denarius, and that stunning Papal medal (2). Superb photography too, as always! Congrats on a great year of collecting. 1 Quote

Di Nomos Posted January 7 · Member Posted January 7 Tough choice, but I think the Kelenderis stater is my favourite. Special mention for the coin with the elephant ( I like elephants on ancient coins). 1 Quote
