Ryro Posted December 25, 2024 · Supporter Posted December 25, 2024 That's right, though my wife didn't get me any coins, thankfully. She got me a bunch of wonderful presents, including this rad Greek monster themed board game! (you can also see my Christmas Jason, not the Argonaut, comfy pants present from her) Anyone played this yet? As well, good old *younger than me, @Curtisimo the great and I have exchanged Christmas gifts for the last few years now. And holy moley did he spoil me this year! He found an ancient coin with a modern theme. Clearly this coin represents Santa Clause, obv, with an elf reverse standing in the ready to fight off the incoming hoards trying to stop Santa's cheer! Septimius Severus (193-211 AD). Struck 195 Rome AR Denarius (17mm 3.22g) Obv: L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP V. Laureate head to right Rev: P M TR P III COS II P P. Minerva standing to left, holding spear and round shield. RIC IV 61; BMCRE 114 (wars of the succession); RSC 390 Ex Aegean Numismatics, Saturnalia gift from @Curtisimo 2024 The luster on this thing is incredible, and incredibly hard to photograph, and it's one of my favorite portraits in my collection! Thanks so much for being my real Santa @Curtisimo. Anyone else have any modern gifts with an ancient theme or vise versa? Please share if so! 12 1 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted December 26, 2024 · Member Posted December 26, 2024 Pretty cool! That's a very nifty game and a very nice Saturnalia gift. 1 1 Quote
CPK Posted December 26, 2024 · Supporter Posted December 26, 2024 That game looks cool. I've never seen it before. And the Septimius Severus denarius is a beauty! I've always liked that reverse type. We do a family gift exchange each year and my nephew got me a nice chess set and this book: 5 1 Quote
