lim Posted December 24, 2024 · Member Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) I'm collecting Alexander the Great's money, and I know that Persepolis was kind of burned down. And here they sell a coin and the description of the mint indicates Persepolis. And I also saw coins from the city of Ecbatana. It's just not clear what kind of releases they are? Or is it a trick of the dealers? ttps://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/athena_numismatics/18/product/kingdom_of_persis_autophradates_ii__earlymid_2nd_century_bc/1922811/Default.aspx Edited December 24, 2024 by lim Quote
JAZ Numismatics Posted December 24, 2024 · Member Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) Ecbatana was considerably north of the Kingdom of Persis. My understanding is that all coins of Persis were struck at Istakhr, which was their capitol city, five kilometers north of Persepolis. It was built using many of the ruined materials of Persepolis, but technically it was not the city Alexander destroyed. You might call Istakhr "New Persepolis." I would say coins of Persis aren't directly related to Alexander's history, but definitely a nice side quest. Edited December 24, 2024 by JAZ Numismatics 3 1 Quote
