Benefactor kirispupis Posted December 24, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted December 24, 2024 For some time this coin has antagonized me. It's measurements are 15.7mm and 3.26g. I received it as a gift from one of my favorite sellers, who had no idea of the attribution. From searching around, the following cities seemed like possibilities. Castulo - The bull and crescent are a very popular theme for them, but the reverse is entirely unknown AFAICT. I checked in my volume of Heiss and found no matches. The vast majority of Castulo coins are also at least twice as heavy. Palmyra - The general feel of the coin matches Palmyra well, and the bull and crescent is known in their coinage. I haven't found any match for the reverse, though Palmyra's 2nd-3rd century CE coinage is extensive and I don't have access to the main literature that covers it. Also, the size and weight don't match at all. Most Palmyra coinage is about half the weight. Therefore, after much consideration, I've determined where this coin was minted! Yes. Somewhere within this circle from precisely the 4th century BCE to the 4th century CE, my coin was minted. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished from several hours of research. Of course, if someone here has stronger clues, I am most willing to listen. 🙂 5 1 3 2 Quote
JayAg47 Posted December 24, 2024 · Member Posted December 24, 2024 Hold on! The Pallavas from South India also issued coins with the bull and crescent. So you might as well include the whole world. 5 2 Quote
