Just came on this one by sheer accident. Coin Cabinet sent an auction reminder/ noticed that coin. When I logged on to the auction/ the coin was five lots away from being offered.

Seeing it was a perfect strike/ I pounced on it/ now in my collection.

Thats a beauty/ struck 5 years after mine was. Bosphoran coins are among earliest dated of all coinage/ way before Islamic Hegira dating and Christian AD dating.

Do you know where these staters were minted? Just making my data label now....

@panzermani dont John 😞 i only collect for eye 👁️ appeal and high level historical context…. But i love Bosporus coins:)

Many thanks! Wow! thats in Ukraine. So I guess Bosphoran coinage is ancient Ukrainian!😇 Now I can add mint city on label!

I hope you get that coin before Christmas! I love that series too!

I find the early Staters Asander and up to Roman Emperors Trajan are $$$. They say in MacDonald book that Sauromates Staters have anywhere from 25-50% gold content. I think this one is near 50+% AV.
