Croatian Coin Collector Posted December 17, 2024 · Member Posted December 17, 2024 Several of them didn't sell at the auction for some reason. 1 Quote
panzerman Posted December 17, 2024 · Member Author Posted December 17, 2024 Always good to check the "unsolds"! I got some excellent wins with CGBfr auctions.☺️ However these go really high at Künker events. Merovingian gold Triens are rare/ regal ones super rare. 1 Quote

The portraits are comical/ same as in Visigothic Hispania😗 Seems Dagobertus I had a wild hairdo. Wonder how much "moneyers" were paid for such crappy work. 1 1 Quote

Are you sure that the "wild hairdo" isn't actually a crown? 1 Quote
panzerman Posted December 18, 2024 · Member Author Posted December 18, 2024 They say diademed/ so likely is his hairdo. Remember back in 600s the hair styles were unruly / like hippies in 1960s. But this is what he looked like/ more like "hippie" Portrait hairdo looks like he just got electrocuted in the chair. Quote
Nap Posted December 18, 2024 · Member Posted December 18, 2024 Bettone is a moneyer, and the other side is the mint. Why would this be called a regal issue? And why Dagobert? I would just say it's part of the National series. 1 Quote

The "Moneyer" was not important to have his bust on coin... Quote

I don’t disagree that the face is not the moneyer’s however because it is very challenging to date these coins, it is speculative to assign them to any particular monarch. Quote
Finn235 Posted December 18, 2024 · Member Posted December 18, 2024 It's fun to see how similar the portrait on your coun is to this one, which is "just" a barbarous AE4 1 Quote
