I started going through my Top 10 and became bogged down pretty quickly. Between the 2 young kids screaming “dad where are you”, the wife, job, etc. I just don’t think I’ll be assembling the wonderful write ups everyone else has.

As I’m sure has been said, reviewing the year reminds oneself of how short, and how long 365 days can be. Some of these pieces were purchased right after Jan 1, and seem like an absolute age ago, but others, being the same time frame, feel much newer. I suppose it boils down to how frequently I visit each tray.

in all, 2024 was likely my high water mark for Ancients. If 2025 is similiar I likely will eclipse my American set as far as value (coin count is already far beyond). I will have more focused acquisitions in 2025, first focusing on quality, with rarity a close second.

The tree was assembled based on my personal approval of the 2024 coins, with about 50% of my purchases reflected.

If you can see all the coins, feel free to mention your favorite.

It's kind of tough to see exactly what's above the VITA row (the non-green example), but my favorites of the clearer rows are the Phocas 20 nummia, the electrum aspron trachy, and the green year 15 Justinian.  I also like the 20 years anarchy row.

Love the Christmas tree presentation - in the pyramid of great looking coins, your Seleucid Tet. Appeals to me: Grypos/Antiochos VIII it is the reverse that I especially like Ake-Ptolemais 121-96 BC. AR Tetradrachm  Reverse: Zeus Ouranios, in himation, stands left, holding scepter and star, crescent atop his head; regnal titles, monogram at left, the whole within wreath border.

congrats on a great 2024 - enjoy the screaming kids - it’s one of those things like the year that lasts forever and disappears in a blink. Best wishes for 2025!

My favorites might be the Maurice Tiberius follis, great quality for that "uncertain military mint" type (if I'm not wrong). I also recognize that  Justin & Justinian follis from CGB as I was the underbidder (🥲). And that RY 15 Justinian follis is also a beauty, the portrait and the patina, wish I could get one that nice, Constantinople portraits tend to turn uglier and uglier around that year.

Thank you everyone for the kind comments!

Work has been busy so i can't respond indivudually. What i enjoy seeing is so many of you are appreciating different pieces. That is my goal in collectining, i am very much a "type set" collector, in that, i like a lot of variety which all relate back to the small major focus (in this case, Byzantine coins... although a few unassociated pieces made the list.)

I'm an opportunist collector, in that i try to buy the best piece for the best deal, without much expectations on what i want. So far it's worked out well, although "needs" are shrinking, so specific focused targets will eventually become inevitable.
