this came in late last nite...i'm not sure where to put it...with the Franks or the Medicis?...since i have 2 & 1 on the way in  French Medals, maybe i'll start a sub group of those...:)  she was born(1519) the daughter of Lorenzo.(not to be confused with 'The Magnificent') Medici,  duke of Urbino (1516-1519) in Florence.. when the last sack of Rome(may 6, 1527 by Charles V's troops) happened, her cousin, Pope Clement Vll was entrapped there for 7 months, he escaped by bribing his way out &  by wearing rags with jewels and melted down gold sewn in the fabric, Clement Vll had plans of attacking Florence with the Papal army to take back control of the city but the Florentines had his 'Pearl without price', which was Catherine, and when they threatened to throw her into a soldiers brothel, he relented, for he had big plans for her. he married her to Henry ll, 2nd son of King Francis, king of France, who would become heir apparent upon the death of his eldest brother, she would weld much power after her husbands death from a jousting accident, which is what this medal shows with the reverse showing a broken lance, she would be queen regent plus some over her 3 sons who would all become king ,Francis ll, Charles lX and Henry lll although Henry lll had dispersed with her in the end of his reign but only outlived her by 7 months...this was a time of strive and religious civil war that engulfed the whole of Europe and its people when Christian killed Christian in the name of religion...i'm sure i left out a lot but i don't usually do long write ups.

post what you will...

Very nice looking medal @ominus1 and Her Queenly garb on your coin is quite unusual - when was the medal minted?  is she in mourning for Henry II?  (Lacrimae Hinc HInc Dolor; Tears Here Here Grief).   She brought Italian chefs with her to France when she married Henry II of France, popularizing italian foods, forks, truffles, sorbets, and dishes featuring vegetables like peas and artichokes.

thanks @Sulla80, it doesn't have a date on it, nor signature of the maker, but i'd guess it was fairly soon after his death that the dies were cut and the medal hammered....
