lim Posted December 13, 2024 · Member Posted December 13, 2024 I found such a coin on sale. I wonder if it's genuine or not? And why is the copper inside? Quote
Mucius Scaevola Posted December 13, 2024 · Member Posted December 13, 2024 (edited) It's not my area, but copper indicates that it is a fourrée, an ancient counterfeit. Edited December 13, 2024 by Mucius Scaevola 4 Quote

"I wonder if it's genuine or not?" Yes and no. It's a genuine counterfeit from about 2300 years ago. It's a fourrée as @Mucius Scaevola stated. I just purchased this fourrée of a Mysia, Kyzikos (Cyzicus). It's unusual because it's such a small coin (10.5 mm / 0.7 g) so not really worth counterfeiting.
