I just saw a post on Reddit pointing to Slavey Petrov's current business on Etsy - selling nice intaglios as well as replica coins now stamped as such, and sold as jewelry.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/SlaveyArt

For those unaware, Slavey had (20-30 years ago) been known as a forger, hand engraving high quality unmarked replica coins. I'm not sure if his intent was ever to deceive anyone however. He also used to sell geniune ancients (I have a couple from him). He's still operating out of Haskovo, Bulgaria as he had been before.

His intaglios seem very reasonably priced give the amount of work/skill that has gone into them. Here's an example of his spin on a famous Constantine medallion, rendered as a jasper intaglio.

Much easier to support this approach and celebrate the level of artistry without the threats of deception of ancient coin collectors.

True, but think of all the poor intaglio collectors when they're resold as genuine items...                                                                                                                              I'd feel a lot better about imitations if they were marked as a copy.

I guess (as with coins) it depends on whether these are original works of art or copies of ancient works of art. (but there is certainly some grey zone that leaves room for abuse)
