rasiel Posted December 12, 2024 · Member Posted December 12, 2024 November kept me busy with the Bizzies. Gunning hard to complete an emperor set -> now homing in on the last ones that are relatively easy to get. How about you? What's new in your collection? Rasiel A tremissis of Eudocia, an example of early Byzantine gold. Rarer and more expensive than those of her husband Theodosius II. YOU-DOH-KEY-UH? EH-OO-DOSHA? Funky names! Just about the last call for the tremissis five centuries later with this Michael III. Or more likely semissis. Debased down to less than 14K fineness, it's a sad reflection of the state of the economic conditions under which it was minted. Gotta love the cartoonish renderings though! The Leo IV family selfies. Here's rocking the latest in 8th century fashion: spaghetti threads and the Loros waffle prints were all the rage. Now here's a solidus of Nicephorus No. 2, respectfully ceding the obverse spotlight to good ole Jesus as was customary. Sure took me a good while to score a coin of this reign, which is odd because they're not that rare. And a Roman coin. A Maximus is a maximus score. Won at less than half the max bid I was willing to pay figuring that if I missed it it might be forever waiting on the next chance... then NAC had one just a couple weeks later. Figures! Not gonna complain though, these really are about as common as rocking horse poop. 14 1 1 2 1 2 Quote
Bannerknight Posted December 12, 2024 · Member Posted December 12, 2024 That Syracuse coin of Michael "the drunkard" is the most stunning I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing! 2 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted December 12, 2024 · Member Posted December 12, 2024 They're all great, but the Maximus is the best of the lot. Very well done! 1 1 Quote

Do you remember how much it went for? The upcoming Triton has one with an opening at 24k... as bad as I want it that's just on another level Rasiel 2 Quote
Benefactor Simon Posted December 13, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted December 13, 2024 I really like that solidus of Nicephorus, it just has something about it. All are nice but that is the eye catcher for me. 2 Quote

It sounds like an exaggeration but I have slept two hours in the past two days. It is midnight as I type this and I've set my alarm for 6am to head back into the office where I expect I will be until Sunday afternoon. What good is a well-paying job if it robs you of your health? Planning on early retirement next year as a literal lifesaver ;-) Rasiel 5 2 Quote
