Benefactor Simon Posted December 12, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted December 12, 2024 This coin was missing in my tetartera collection. I just won it from a Leu auction. I am traveling and I noticed it differed from the Labarum example. Theodore Comnenus-Ducas, as emperor of Thessalonica, 1225/7-1230. Half Tetarteron (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.05 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, circa 1225. O/AΓ/HOC Δ/HM/HT/TP Half-length figure of St. Demetrius standing facing. Rev. ΘЄ/O/Δ/Ⲱ/P/O/C O/Δ૪/K/A/C Theodore standing facing, holding akakia in his left hand and labarum in his right. DOC pl. XL, 15. SB 2173. Very rare and unusually complete. Minor corrosion, otherwise, about very fine. Confusing coin, seems closest to DOC IV pl xl 15v, It is rough but I don't recall seeing it hit the market in recent times. I won't get it until next year, I am hoping with a little more space in the photo the image will be more presentable. 14 Quote

Yes, it was me, even though it was not originally a collecting goal, I am only missing a few 13th century tetartera. This one marks one off the list. Got to have those flat copper coins. 🙂 Edited December 12, 2024 by Simon 1 Quote
