AncientCoinnoisseur Posted December 11, 2024 · Member Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) More details: around 31mm wide, looks like bronze. I’d say a Sestertius, although the lack of legends (or traces of them) makes me think it’s just a fake / bad replica. Might just be very worn though! It came like this, so I didn’t touch it, not sure if it has already been cleaned, not even sure it’s real to be honest. I’m torn between Hadrian / Marcus Aurelius / Antoninus Pius / Lucius Verus / Commodus, the hairstyle and beard make me think of them. I cracked open ERIC II and I’m looking at all the reverses, but so far I’m not sure I have identified it 😕 I’m scared of cleaning it, I think there’s nothing more to do. The video is too big to attach, so you can find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AncientCoins/s/9EH8sXTvWD Seriously, watch the video, it helps a lot, the pictures are not that good! 😕 EDIT: Photos of the edge: Edited December 11, 2024 by AncientCoinnoisseur Added details Quote
AncientCoinnoisseur Posted December 11, 2024 · Member Author Posted December 11, 2024 Another user on Reddit identified it as a possible cast copy of this Cavino medallion of Lucius Verus: Looks like it, although the edge seems old, but I’m not great at recognising fake / real sestertii! Quote
Roman Collector Posted December 11, 2024 · Patron Posted December 11, 2024 The 'fro on the portrait looks like Lucius Verus to me. Quote
