[CLOSED] LordM Holiday Giveaway, 2024 (pick your prize)

Update, 12/25/24: this contest is now CLOSED.  The winner of the drawing was @Nerosmyfavorite68.

Happy December! The Holiday season is upon us, it seems! 🎁🎄☃️

To celebrate, I will offer a “pick your prize” giveaway, like I regularly do on CoinTalk- but this one is a NumisForums exclusive.

We will have a random drawing on or shortly after Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, depending on my schedule. You may consider this contest open for entries until such time as I’ve announced the drawing and marked it closed.

To enter, all you have to do is pick your preferred prize out of the Giveaway Gallery (free store) linked below, AND state what made you choose that particular lot.

That last bit is important. You need to state not just WHAT your prize choice is, but WHY you chose it, in a few words.

That’s all. No further strings attached (except your promise to post a confirmation here after you receive the goods).

https://www.colleconline.com/en/collection-items/21292/coins-giveaway-gallery

Note that I have a ton of giveaways presently going on CoinTalk, so there is a chance your chosen prize may be gone by the time of the drawing (but only a tiny chance of that- and you’d get to choose again in the unlikely event of that happening.)

Additionally, there should be some new prize options added to the Giveaway Gallery as the month proceeds. So your prize choice need not be final. You’ll get a chance to change your mind at the end if you want to. I just like to see people’s preliminary picks up front, because it gives me an idea of what’s popular and helps me shop for future giveaway offerings.

Alternately, you may nominate someone else as your proxy, if you’re not interested in winning the prize yourself. If you do that, you do not need to pick a prize, since your proxy will get their choice if your entry wins for them.

Happy Holidays, and a safe and prosperous New Year.

A very kind offering @lordmarcovan! I would say in the Christmas spirit, but you've always had a kind and giving spirit.

My favorite must be the, Seleucid Empire: ca. 114-95 BC bronze Æ18 of Antiochus IX Cyzicenus, Eros/Nike. The reasoning is the excellent image of Eros. Usually on this type you get Eros all over, and often off, the flan. Here the strike is good and you can even see his wings perfectly.

Thanks for putting this on and for all you contribute to the numismatic community!

I don't usually take advantage of your generosity, but I'll take a chance on the small Petosi cob, with the 1943 provenance. I like cobs and it's gone unloved in many giveaways, so I wouldn't mind finding it a home.  Edit: I forgot to add, the old provenance was also an attraction.

As of right now, with the sole entry posted so far, you’ve got 100% odds of winning the drawing! 😉

Edit: oops, nope, that dropped to 50% when @Nerosmyfavorite68 came in!  😛

Several folks have tried for that one in the CT contests, but nobody who chose it has won a drawing yet.  Good luck!

Thank you for this giveaway opportunity, I'd like to enter if you don't mind! :))

I like the look of the 1856 large cent and I've been thinking about expanding my collection past ancients a little bit, so I'll take a chance with that one!

I'll throw my hat into the ring, and if Fortuna smiles upon me I would choose the Potosi cob as my prize.  My reason: Cobs are cool, and I don't have any in my collection yet.

The Antoninus Pius denarius would be my pick, because I find votives, both suscepta and soluta, really interesting and in the domain that I am actually primarily interested in, that is dating stuff - coins that are thoroughly anchored to a particular year in time. What that year meant for the empire I leave it for @airhead1983 to discover since, if I win the draw, I nominate her to receive the prize.

Thank you for your generosity @lordmarcovan!

Thanks for the generous opportunity @lordmarcovan!

Two coins which fall outside of my normal collecting interests catch my eye: the 1856 US large cent, and the 1836 Capped bust dime. I think I will pick the latter, because it's older, and has a great look despite the wear.

Thanks once again!

I know how generous you are LM, and I'd like to apply once more to one of your giveaways. I will go with the 1836 silver Capped Bust dime.

I want to expand a bit my USA collection with circulated examples from the 19th century (I don't need - or want to pay absurd amounts for - pristine MS graded examples) and that one, that I don't already have an example of, fits perfectly my goal.

Happy end of the year

The generosity here is incredible. I’ll throw my hat in the ring for the Campgate. This is because while I have other Campgate I don’t have one from Licinius and I really like all the subtle architectural variations shown on the reverses.

I have always enjoyed worn cartwheels. My grandparents had saved several of them, and used to let me look at them as a child. Your worn pair donated by your NC sister would be my choice. I spent many years in NC, and loved my time there.

thank you,

Brian

Very generous of you doing this so often.

This is my first time entering one of your give aways.  I would choose the Licinius II for three reasons, it is a very beutiful coin, I do not have coin of him and did not know that the coin displays him as an adult but was murdered as just a young boy only about 11 years old.

I wonder about that.  Could the coins of Licinius II with the obvious adult portraiture actually be showing the father’s portrait on the son’s coins?

Anyone?  I’m curious, and, as usual, a bit out of my depth here.

Hey, coingratulations, @Nerosmyfavorite68!  You won the drawing!

I used a random number generator, which picked #3 as the lucky number.  Your post was #3 in this thread.

So that Potosi cob is yours if that's still your choice.  However, since I added several new prizes to the Giveaway Gallery recently, have another look there to make sure the cob is the prize you want.  If it is, fine.  If there's something else you would rather have, that's also fine.  I'll just need to know your final selection and your shipping address.  Will message you shortly.

Merry Christmas, all, and best wishes for the upcoming New Year! :)
