JAZ Numismatics Posted December 7, 2024 · Member Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Although I collect only pre-Islamic Arabian coinage, I buy a variety of coins for my store, and in a very real sense, I also collect those, albeit temporarily. I'm not the sort of dealer that buys huge collections and lists thousands of coins. I only pick coins for my store that I would want in my own collection. So here are my top ten. Some of these are sold (to some of you on this forum), some are still for sale. My Arabian top ten would require another thread. These are not in any particular order... 1. Caracalla of Pautalia... 2. Small bronze of Athens, because how often do you find small bronzes of Athens? 3. Denarius of Fonteius... 4. Cistophoric tetradrachm of Ephesus with Priapus as a minor device and rare date... 5. Denarius of Fonteius because I never get tired of baby Genius riding a goat... 6. Celtic imitation of Philip II bronze. Very scarce... 7. Syracusan tetras, KAINON... 8. AE tet of Kamnaskires VI, the nicest one I've ever seen... 9. Hosidius Geta denarius, Diana, speared boar being hounded... 10. Allectus, row, row, row your boat... Edited December 8, 2024 by JAZ Numismatics 35 1 1 3 2 1 Quote

Benefactor DonnaML Posted December 7, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) The Fonteius (# 3) is one of my favorite Republican types, and yours is a fantastic example. Look how clearly one can see the wolf's head at the prow. My other favorites are #'s 1 & 9. Edited December 7, 2024 by DonnaML 2 1 Quote

Di Nomos Posted December 7, 2024 · Member Posted December 7, 2024 Interesting and diverse range of coins. I particularly like #1, great portrait, and #3 is also a great type. If I collected Roman coins would love them in my collection. And a special mention for the little bronze from Athens, which I find quite attractive. 2 Quote

Roman Collector Posted December 14, 2024 · Patron Posted December 14, 2024 Wonderful coins, all of them, but that Caracalla and Glykon of Pautalia is my favorite, not just for the reverse type, but also the obverse portrait. Quote
Gallienus Posted December 14, 2024 · Supporter Posted December 14, 2024 Very nice selection @JAZ Numismatics. I can see why you get loyal customers! Too bad I never met a coin dealer like you when I was just a kid and getting beaten to death by malodorus coin-dealers. The bronze Provincial of Caracalla is my favorite. Quote
shanxi Posted December 14, 2024 · Supporter Posted December 14, 2024 As an Elymais collector your Kamnaskires VI is my favorite. 1 Quote
