Romismatist Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) Hello Everyone, I was watching this EBay UK lot which I unfortunately couldn't bid on, as it was limited to UK bidders only. The bottom left coin is a very worn lifetime Julius Caesar denarius. The lot went for GBP 167. Thoughts on whether it was a deal or not? I would have paid more. What does everyone else think? John Conduitt Posted November 16, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) It's worth more but the other coins are not going to help you much. Maybe £40 for those. The Caesar would sell with almost nothing on it but there's not that much more detail there. Edited November 16, 2024 by John Conduitt 1 Quote
JAZ Numismatics Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 Not in my book. Better to pay more and get a better coin. 4 Quote
CPK Posted November 16, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 16, 2024 Assuming the JC hasn't been tampered with - hard to say it's not worth a couple hundred dollars even in that worn condition. The other coins aren't worth more than say $20-$30 each on average IMO. (And that is owed largely to the Trajan and Domitian.) All in all, it would have been a pretty good deal. I don't know where you could possibly find a lifetime portrait denarius of Julius Caesar in any condition for under $200. 4 Quote
JayAg47 Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 I saw that one and was tempted to bid, but something held me back! 1 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 Mine has more reverse detail but I'd be less ashamed of that one. The rest of the stuff is dreck, but that would be a great deal! 1 Quote
Romismatist Posted November 17, 2024 · Member Author Posted November 17, 2024 Thanks to everyone for your feedback, it's much appreciated! Like @JAZ Numismatics and @JayAg47, I was on the fence on whether to bid, but the UK limitation basically solved that dilemma for me. Quote
wuntbedruv Posted November 20, 2024 · Member Posted November 20, 2024 Bermondsey Coins obviously thought so! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116397744877?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110013%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIMRXI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D276750%26meid%3D28be8c98e2f746c79041106691ad4e25%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D335665459077%26itm%3D116397744877%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2332490%26algv%3DSimRXIVINativeV2WithSellersOwnItemsFilter&_trksid=p2332490.c101196.m2219&itmprp=cksum%3A11639774487728be8c98e2f746c79041106691ad4e25|enc%3AAQAJAAABEMd7r5mNjkO12hUFN8%2BUjou0r36TWdG4ts9ki5yV37PLn%2BNOULI4btYgHvyZLxyhY6HvUyaW8lYSaZHJuNtCUWzHacBV%2BfQc%2F5C8PlRWkxDwtUSOWF1LSirU%2FVI7nx7ZyuEy8HoQdeGa5bXFRvBjSSFPjzaP%2FMXw6JGLDrKvA9WzuIQfEzldJBiDluhBJbTSps5PviOV0W5uNBWnBQdkSRvS%2Fy5lFp7Nm5tB1adKbSAdnl5fUmVJRyVZ6v%2FjJ8Ql253n5HcfyAe6%2Bebif65pOLZfy%2B7m42xFbfssnRiXta16QD3XfjgnUPGg5YedRtXbK6dI5VMy5dZBta4A7UuqZYwSaLmp0CcYBAvmU9nsOM%2Fj|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2332490&itmmeta=01JD5KP9S07ZNEJ4AJ3PRB3NGR 2 Quote
John Conduitt Posted November 20, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 20, 2024 £450 is a lot, but they're allowing offers. I've never worked out Bermondsey Coins's pricing strategy - usually far too high, but with offers accepted (like Mr HighRatingLowPrice), yet sometimes not too bad, also with offers accepted. Quote
