JayAg47 Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 Went to my local coin show today, came out with a bunch of coins. A nice Domitian has been lacking in my Flavian family until today, Domitian AR Denarius 92 AD, 3.26g. Obv: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P XI. Laureate head right. Rev: IMP XXI COS XVI CENS P P P. Minerva standing left with spear and thunderbolt, shield at feet. These are my Domitians I have so far, a denarius of the same type but worn and scratched, a coin of him as Caesar under Titus, and a Fourree. Regarding the Sovereign, it's actually a 'Jewelers copy', of the same gold content (guaranteed by the seller, and also tested myself when I got home), however struck by some private mint sometime around the 50s or 60s due to increased demand in the Middle east. Notice the date, Victoria was not the reigning monarch in 1915. Interestingly you can see die clash on the reverse, especially between 11'o clock to 2 o clock. Got it for just above spot price. And finally a couple of cheap additions from the ancient junk bin, a peculiarly holed Alexander drachm (3.80g) and a Faustina Sr dupondius (9.64g). 10 Quote
Sulla80 Posted November 16, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 16, 2024 Interesting pickups - especially the 'Jewelers copy' - issued by Queen Victoria after her death on January 22, 1901 - reminds me of these coins - Portrait of Philip (long after his death) Syria under Roman rule. 7 Quote
CPK Posted November 16, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 16, 2024 Nice new additions @JayAg47. I hadn't known about jeweler's copies like that. Interesting! 1 Quote
