Robi Posted November 16, 2024 · Member Posted November 16, 2024 (edited) Hi, I am asking for help from experts on the subject (if you have a catalog of Seleucid Kingdom coins in a book version - it may help). I bought a coin with the seller's description: Unit, Antiochus IX, SC 2397. I had some doubts whether it was Antiochus X, SC 2433, but I was convinced by the lack of the second row of letters on the left and visible ribbons under the wreath, and a slightly different head of the ruler (matching Antiochus IX). But it still bothered me that the inscription on the left side from Nike looked more like ΕΥΣΕΒ*. And after looking through the catalog numbers again, I noticed that under the number SC 2433 of Antiochus X, among the standard coins with two rows of letters on the left side Nike: EVΣEBOVΣ ΦIAΛOΠATOPOΣ, there is one coin of my type with the inscription only EVΣEBOVΣ (screenshot attached). My conclusions: my coin is that of Antiochus X Eusebes Philopator. But it seems to me that it should not be placed under the number SC 2433. I suspect that this is an earlier issue, in which Antiochus X used his predecessor's minting matrix, replacing only one row from ΦIΛOΠATOPOΣ to EVΣEBOVΣ. It seems that the units of my type are lighter: mine is 2.45 g, in SC online 2.77 g (maybe half unit?), other units of SC 2433 are probably around 4-5 g - but I don't have enough starting material (I found only one coin of this type apart from mine) Maybe this type is separated in the book catalog? I will be grateful for your help Robert Edited November 16, 2024 by Robi 1 Quote
