Orange Julius Posted November 10, 2024 · Member Posted November 10, 2024 Great coins in this thread! I recently picked up the below “snack”. It’s not the nicest example but will do for $19. Probus (276 - 282 AD). Obv: IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F A - VG. Helmeted bust with radiate crown, armour, shouldered lance and shield to the left. Rev: SOLI INVICT - O / XXI V. Sol with raised right hand and whip driving in quadriga to the left. 279 AD Siscia, RIC 767 9 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 10, 2024 · Member Posted November 10, 2024 It's a fun coin and we're lucky that Probus made so many of the neater busts. One wonders why more emperors didn't do that? I have no photographed coins of Probus to share. I have only perhaps 2 or 3, none photographed. The last one I acquired was in 2009. I think my 1990's one has a bust like Orange Julius' coin and the 2009 was a super deal ($20!) on a fully silvered example, but it's just a normal bust. 1 Quote
